I didn't know what clean feels like until an old Korean woman took it into her own hands to make sure I didn't contaminate the hot-after-washing pool. The women use these SOS pad-like scrubbies on every part of their bodies (ears, faces, butts, breasts, even) and scrub for A LONG TIME. Anyway, I sat down on the tiles next to this old woman who greeted me in Korean. She watched me for a bit and when she realized that I obviously did not know how to make myself "clean" she lent me one of these cruel scrubbies and got me to copy her. I winced and winced, but wanting to please everyone in every situation, I did what she wanted without even considering escape options. After half an hour of this I had probably lost about 2 mm of surface skin all over, but apparently I still was not clean.
