Translink in Vancouver is cutting lots o' services because all the rich SUV-snobs and hicks refused to pay a little car tax. And of course Translink itself is a little suspect what with increased pay hikes to execs and whatnot. But what is really hilarious are the misguided actions by a bunch of activists. Action is needed on this issue, but protesting TO/AT TRANSLINK DOES NOTHING. First, the email calling for support is littered with this sort of pseudo-Marxist rhetoric: "(1) Tell TransLink "No cuts to public transit! More buses and lower fares!"" Uh-huh, right. Note to self: teach basic economics at those Teach-Ins. And then they stay stuff like: "Women without money for cars or taxis will be stranded in the middle of the night." Thank god they noticed the feminist revolution! I can't tell if this is supposed to the male activist with a guilt complex, or the female activist who wants to help her sisters, or what. More than that, it would seem to me that in general ANYONE without money will be stranded.
