the bloody new moon

heya people

well that's a nice title and how i feel.

anyways, just as lotus was taking control of the decks on friday, may 29 and things were starting to bond and meld at new moon, our friends the RCMP decided to show up in force with a paddy wagon, response team and cruisers. they had already dropped by once, and said they were kewl with it- so the second visit came as a total surprise.

anyways, needless to say we were forced to shut down after they threatened force (a good negotiating technique). they stated park bylaw reasons, but i was surprised as the spanish banks events usually go off without a hitch- obviously they wanted to make some sort of impression, and now that i think about it, it is grad season and (as they stated) they were worried about fights (as well as overdoses, fires, alcohol, and people generally having a good time).

however it definetly disturbed me that they were advertising a certain other legal event tonight, neverneverland. this is totally kewl- i really appreciate salim's efforts to legalize the massives- this is what is needed to be done, to work with the police- however, some education needs to be done to separate the police's perception that "go to the legal rave tomorrow night !" is not the same as a new moon or many other smaller gatherings. what we are doing is not a "rave"- it is something different, i hope, and we put a lot of time and effort into it to make it different. i just we wished we had decided to create this difference perhaps somewhere in squamish.

we did cover our basic expenses and so did not lose too much money. we would like to thank everyone who donated even though the event was cut short- it goes a long way psychologically and fiscally towards producing the next one and future events. a big thanks to all who stayed and helped clean up, as well as the "usual" crew who helped set up-  it is difficult to express good thanks at the event as unfortuntately usually whoever is in charge is a bit stressed and ends up neglecting the volunteers, so i would just like to say: a BIG thankyou, and a super big thankyou to the 200 people all told who showed up by 1:40am to support us as well.

on an aside, a question: as i think more, and perhaps learn more of the systems we have set in place to regulate this planet, i wonder what validity they hold: and realize the answer is nothing. there is no validity in regulating park times, which is regulating when nature is supposed to wake up and sleep. this regulation is only enforced by brute force, by oppression of some other ridiculous force, in which case it was the 5 cruisers, paddy wagon and a swat team- nature herself does not impose these ridiculous limits; it is only an extension of our own paranoia (who knows, perhaps of death or control ?) that creates "liabilities". we have walked this earth in some form for 10 000 years, perhaps longer, and liability and nature-regulation have only existed for perhaps 50 of those small cycles. and so a message: i don't obey or listen to any such imposed fascist laws; i will not let a bunch of other hairy, slightly developed apes tell my group of hairy, slightly developed apes what we will and will not do in a peaceful context.
